Use RIAA Radar to see if the CDs your are buying are supporting the RIAA. The site also has a list of the top RIAA safe albums.
Support the artists directly by going to concerts and buying other band merch. You can find local events with sites like Upcoming and Eventful.
Find out about other musicians with online services like Last.FM and Pandora.
Buy music from indie artists on sites like Amie Street, Jamendo, and Podsafe Audio. A list of sites can be found here.
